First Timers Start Here

  • Download Skype if you're new
  • Set up your Skype account
  • Create a /New Contact for LSQUIRESSKYPE
  • Right click on contact LSquiresSkype then on Send IM to let us know you've arrived
  • Update Your Profile with your new Skype ID
  • Email The Skypster if you need assistance with these directions
  • Later, install a $20 headset
  • Later still, install a video camera
  • Equip your account to call land lines and cell phones

  • 200 person chats available 7*24, display green icons who's presently online . Click up to 24 onliners for instant voice call.
  • How many people can skype accommodate in text chats -- 200 per Conversation. It's time to invent new forms of collaboration.
  • Imagine your event/ speech/church service/ conference/ training session audible in 24 locations to hundreds of people at each location.
  • Grandparents, buy 2 copies of a book. Send one to grandchild. Use Skype VIDEO to share the experiences of reading together.
  • You're in LA. Your audience for your Powerpoint in NYC. SHARE your screen. Full Screen. Fire up your PPT. Voice & PPT now in NYC.
  • Invite a speaker from anywhere in the world to address your group. Project presenter's video to overhead. Direct sound to PA system for very large groups
  • Plug computer's external speakers into public address system. Whole conference, classroom, church can participate on the call.
  • Use TODAY as your TO-DO list -- put an "a" in Send Message, but don't send. Person from previous days immediately jumps onto your TO-DO list.
  • Always clearly identify yourself when requesting to ADD new Contacts -- e.g.,"I'm from Transition Florida. Please approve me."
  • Use RENAME as 70 character notepad -- e.g. who referred, spouse's name, cross references, organization, to-do items -- use Conservations Search to find these tags.
  • Wow! Investor groups including Andreesen/Hororwitz make play for Skype -TechCrunch -- This would bring Ning and Skype together!
  • 08/28/09 Open an account on Twitter -- we're going to be using it as a tool complimentary to skype.
  • 08/28/09 CNTRL-Call -- Just discovered. 50 people in a Group. 5 of them are online. Hold down CNTRL and check off the 5 for a conf call. CALL calls those 5 only. Ignores the rest.
  • Resolution today. Going to Tweet one skype tip per day on Twitter.

  • New! Alternatives to Skype. Would I have to change my name!?!?
  • Get your group together and we'll learn together how to collaborate.
  • Continue setting up newcomers. Advanced users are encouraged to gather 2-3 additional persons from their contacts to set up a group and attend with them.

What We're All About

The Pied Skyper is dedicated to demonstrating to participants how to use their computers as telephones, for text messaging, video conferencing, conference calling , screen sharing and virtual radio broadcasts -- and free of charge. Participants will learn how to create and manage these tools. Experiences on this site are based on over 1400 regular skype users and 3800+ landline and cell phone participants registered with LSquiresSkype. Plus the excellent questions and observations of other participants.

The Pied Skyper regularly hosts Skype tutorials. See calendar above. You may attend on any day, come anytime, and stay for as long as you wish; you may attend on multiple days. We will schedule additional sessions as needed. Feel free to invite skypers you work with to join a session with you, or to schedule a session just for your own local group.

Who will benefit most from this site?
  • Businesses. Any Business wanting to hold regular live events with their customers and suppliers. Treating customers as your "board". Convening suppliers for strategic dialog. Building your own active network.
  • Organizations. All Organizations currently struggling to improve frequency, quality, and durability of information from their committees, boards of directors, members. Keep minutes for all to see. Record commitments. Contractual details. Followup.
  • Families. Children in university? Family members living abroad? Family reunions getting more and more difficult to sustain? Want better contact with grandchildren?
